Space2, led by Dawn Fuller, are championing the arts across Alwoodley, an area of outer Leeds where children and young people are keen to see more opportunities to enjoy and participate in the arts, from drama and dance to sculpture and film-making.
To date 4 local dance clubs, 4 art clubs, 1 performance poetry club and 1 drama club have been set up running after school in 6 primary schools for over 100 children to enjoy and connect with the arts.
During the holidays local young people have the opportunity to ‘taste’ dance in all its diversity from street and reggae styles to contemporary, hone some new moves and get fit.
Over 350 children and young people have taken part in taster sessions and trips to give them a broader experience and help them decide what activities they want to see in their communities and schools in the future.
As the project progresses opportunities will become available for local children and young people to get involved in larger scale, citywide events and showcase some of their work for local families and community members.
